Mise en scene

M I SE E N S C E N E  : ANALYSIS: The opening of Stranger Things establishes the setting as a mixture of different emotions. this is because in the opening scene, the skies in the background has been sectioned off since we see that the top left, is a field with yellow skies, which connotes that it is bright and pure considering the audience would be drawn to it as it seems heavenly. however on the other side, the skies are in the shades of dark blues. this can connote the mix of emotions the character is facing which is shown using the environment. the contrast of light and dark can make the audience question what may happen in the next scene as it creates a sense of mystery.

ANALYSIS - Denotations and connotations

Denotation From this picture, I can see that the advert portrays a young boy in ruffled clothing , seemingly sad, standing Infront of what looks like a small village and the advert quotes " dig toilets, not graves". Connotations I connote that the ' young boy in ruffled clothing' shows that he is living his life in poverty which can make the audience feel sympathetic. the boy's saddened expression tells us that he is struggling without water. this is also shown in the tagline where it says    " dig toilets, not graves" which can alarm the audience of the conditions he's living in , creating a sense of urgency and encouraging them to make more donations. In the tagline, " dig toilets, not graves", shows that their living conditions are becoming fatal with the absence of water, which can make the audience feel more responsive, which can lead to the company luring a wide range of supporters, increasing t...

KEY CONCEPT ANALYSIS LANGUAGE: The poster makes use of key conventions such as the title, tagline, and billing block, which clearly establish the film’s identity. The central focus is on the characters and the logo, with their determined facial expressions suggesting intensity and hinting at the central conflict of the narrative. This creates a sense of tension and thrill for the audience. The colour palette is dominated by red and gold: red often symbolises danger, urgency, or rebellion, while gold suggests importance, value, or power. The choice of gold for the logo reinforces the sense of prestige and significance tied to the story and its themes. INDUSTRY: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was distributed by Lionsgate Films and Stars Entertainment. It was directed by Francis Lawrence, who previously directed the original Hunger Games films and is well known for his work within the dystopian science fiction genre. The film is an adaptation of Suzanne Collins’...
