Q6 - WHY MIGHT CHARITIES USE PICTURES OF CHILDREN IN THEIR ADVERTISING

Charities might use this picture to show the audience what kind of issue they are asking the audience to help with. This is shown the expression the boy it creating. His frowning expression portrays him as a helpless and worn out individual, potentially due to the conditions he is living in. This helps the audience feel sympathetic and remorseful for the boy which encourages the people to donate as they would hope to help children with similar or poor experiences as him. Another reason is because charities generally use emotive imagery to help attract their audience. This is due to the fact that people often associate children to innocence and vulnerability. Such kinds of adverts usually manages to reach several donors due to the reason that they appeal to people's generosity. This image would be easily recognisable to the target audience as  they would see a child in need which would create a sense of urgency to protect such children with tremendous experiences, therefore donating to the business in hopes to support the cause.
